I'm a smoker, but I can definitely relate to your issue. I don't take any offense at what you are saying at all.

There are air purifiers you can purchase that take the smoke out of the air you are breathing. I would also get a letter from your doctors' regarding your daughter's asthma and send it to your landlord. Maybe they will be willing to make the apartment complex "smoke free". It would be in their best interest and everyone who lives there if they did that. Some landlords are reasonable, some are not.
