I'd like to add this thought. This has helped me better accept the Lord's will concerning my afflictions.

"Healing blessings come in many ways, each suited to our individual needs, as known to Him who loves us best. Sometimes a "healing" cures our illness or lifts our burden. But sometimes we are "healed" by being given strength or understanding or patience to bear the burdens placed upon us. " Elder Dallin H. Oaks

It may be hard to feel so at times, but I sometimes think that my afflictions have actually been a blessing for me. I'm still learning and developing because of them. They have brought precious people into my life. I have greater compassion and understanding for others. And sometimes, I even think that in some way I've been protected because of them, though I really can't explain that.
