It is really great you are getting checked to keep on top of this.
It can be frustrating to have to take more things but the vitamin D in particular as mentioned above affects and supports so many parts of our critical systems and functions. It is important to keep this at appropriate levels to stay safe. I personally want to make sure my body gets what it needs to function, just like I eat, sleep, etc. If I need to take another pill, then so be it be the repersussions otherwise are not worth it.
A bit of trivia: to maintain vitamin D, you can be out in the sun (full bodied exposure and no suncsreen) - if fair skinned for 10-15 minutes to get the required amount of sun to convert D. If you're already tan or of Hispanic origin, you need maybe 15 to 20 minutes. Black skin may require six times the sun exposure to make the same vitamin D levels as a very fair-skinned person. However, with skin cancer on the rise, sun exposure without sunscreen is not recommended. Also those in northern climates and many climates where full bodied exposure is not an option, is the reason why many are Vit D deficient.

There are two kinds of cholesterol, the kind influenced by diet (exogenous) and the the kind our body produces itself (endogenous), that is in no way affected by diet and is influenced by genetics. The total counts in labwork though reflect the combination of the two and does not separate them. Keeping it in check through diet, and if needed medication is sometimes necessary.
