I once went several months without caffeine and only low amounts of sugar and refined carbs, and I had never felt better in terms of my mental health. I keep intending to go back to eating this way, but when I'm depressed it's really hard to stick with it. It did seem to lessen my mood swings, though, and make my depression and anxiety less severe.
