Hello. I am currently adjusting to Lamictal. It is giving me a lot of trouble and I wanted to know if other people had similar difficulties adjusting to new medication.

I am on 50mg and working up to 150. I just upped from 25 last Thursday and was feeling pretty cheerful towards the end of the week. However, I also began working from home again with reduced hours and it's still proving to be too much to handle. I have crying spells during the day and in the middle of the night because I feel so overwhelmed. I also suffer from a complex motor tic disorder which presents itself in convulsions, stuttering and uncontrollable laughter. I get bursts of anger and throw things or punch whatever is nearby and curse loudly. My boyfriend has to restrain me so I don't injure myself. Today in particular, after a few unexpected phone calls and a subsequent breakdown, my boyfriend had to sit next to me the whole day and coax me a step at a time to get me to eat and accomplish any work.

Before starting medication I wasn't functioning well, but I was functioning. I had panic attacks nearly every day but I still could get to work and do a few hours worth. Now I feel like I can't even do that. Driving is scary because I get the urge to ram into other cars. All of this is very reminiscent of emotions I haven't felt since high school.

I fear my pdoc will want to take me off Lamictal and put me on another medication with more severe side effects. Lamictal was very helpful for 5 years through college so I was willing to give it another try. I just want to know if it will get better.
