I agree with everyone else. I don't know what your age is, but I had been treated for major depression for about 15 years and suddenly went full blown manic for the first time. I was 36. It's not unheard of to get diagnosed later than your 20's. The best thing to do is find the right meds regardless of the diagnosis. I also hate taking meds when I feel great, but trust me, this can blow up in ways that will scare you and everyone around you. If you're manic long enough, it can turn psychotic as well. Once full blown manic, you've pretty much lost all control over yourself. Not a fun place to be no matter how great we think it is. Just keep hassling your doctor until you get the help you need.
