I'm so glad you went! Is there any sort of non-Xanax solution for your anxiety? You know breathing exercises, yoga that sort of thing? Honestly I know it's not as good but it can sometimes take the edge off if you are getting toward panic...for the breathing you can try lying on the floor and cupping your stomach with your hands and then breathing so your stomach fills your hands. You want to puff up your stomach and not your lungs because it's actually deeper breathing through your diaphragm.
