Wow. I can't imagine a pdoc giving up on a patient who hasn't been tried on a higher dose of Lamictal or even a tiny dose of an AD. It is DEFINITELY time to go to a different doc---there are so many more things that can be done for you!
Personally, I can't do without my Celexa. I've tried going off of it twice and promptly went into a death spiral. Anything over my current 5 mg tends to contribute to mania, so I stick with this teeny-tiny bit and do pretty well. (Wellbutrin made me full-on manic AND psychotic, so it's not necessarily the end-all and be-all of ADs for everyone, even if it does have a somewhat favorable profile in BPs.) Just don't let this pdoc discourage you from seeking proper treatment; there's bound to be something out there for you that'll make you better without flipping you into mania. Don't settle!
