I would try talking to your professor early, even if you do want to try and attempt the paper. They may be able to offer you some extra support or even just be aware early on so that they can have something else prepared if needed.

Usually they are extremely helpful but it can take a bit of time to prepare a new question etc. so having them aware early can speed up the process later if needed.
