If you can afford it, have someone else take care of the house. Or, if you can afford it, let it go. Drop it.
Take the work you want. You do not Have to do the house first, or all at once, or at all for that matter. (& get a realtor in to give you an "as is" price after you take anything you actually want)
Don't let the parental home mess up your options.
