2 things: the current chat has problems. if there is a glitch sometimes it will log you out without telling you. And then you can type and it will show you what you write but you can't see what anyone else is typing. If you check the script of the chat you can see if others are chatting.

Other thing: chat goes in waves. there will be periods of lots of talking then periods of little or no talking. Some people are whispering, but others (like myself) multi task when they are in chat. If you want to talk you need to step up and try to converse with others and get the conversation going.
