My voice rises to God and I will cry aloud; In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; In the night my hand was stretched out without weariness; My soul refused to be comforted. I remember God then I am disturbed; I sigh, my spirit grows faint; Thou has held my eyelids open. I am so troubled that I cannot speak. I have considered the days of old, the years of long ago. I will remember my song in the night; I will meditate with my heart; and my spirit ponders; will the Lord reject forever? and will He never be favorable again? Has His lovingkindness ceased forever? Has promise come to an end forever? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Or has He in anger withdrawn Hi s compassion? Then I said, "It is my grief, that the right hand of the Most High has changed" I shall remember the deeds of the Lord. surely I will remember Thy miracles of old; I will meditate on all Thy work. And muse on Thy deeds. You are Holy God, You are Holy. What god is great like our God? Thou art the God Who workesth miracles; Thou hast made known Thy strength among the peoples; Thou hast by Thy power redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.

The psalmist here begins in a very troubled, distressed, depressed state of mind that can come over anyone. He was overwhelmed! He even blamed God for his inability to sleep. In the first 6 verses he catalogues everything affected: voice, hand, soul, eyes, speech, thought, memory, and heart.

But then, the "light" goes on in verse 10 (in the Hebrew it shows as an ah ha! in the middle of what the psalmist was writing... and he moves into remembering HERE is all that the right hand of God has done for me in the past, (so why am I doubting?)) When we are depressed, begin to meditate on the greatness of God and HE will change our state of mind.

And in verses 16-19 He acknowledges that God is in control of everything! The latter part of the psalm which I did not post shows the psalmist recounting how God brought the children out of Egypt... how God stayed at the back of the tribe, in the whirlwind of fire, and yet He was also the Wind that swept the sea apart, and went with them to the otherside. They could "see" Him at the back, but couldn't see Him in front (in the wind.)

The moral? We can't avoid this state of mind, but we can avoid staying there. God leads His people. Say, "Wherever I am, God is leading"

God is still in control!
Selah! (Believe it!)
