Telling someone who SIs that their damage is not serious is like telling someone who over doses and doesn't take the whole bottle not serious about suicide. You just don't do it.

Most people start out almost experimenting how far they can go. Eventually, as their courage builds, it gets worse and worse. The time to stop it is when it is in the beginning stages. I realize that the mental health community is overloaded, but there really isn't any excuse for being condescending. The fact is that you were/are in pain, and you can't measure that by how deep you cut.
