Not to add to the disorders and I'm not a doctor or medical professional (my disclaimer). As a child supposedly I had a "Petit Mal" Absence Siezure in the left temporal lobe. It's basically a convulsion that lasts 30 seconds, most people don't notice it. Supposedly you just stare into space and check out briefly.

The reason I bring this up is that in my limited research, people with temporal lobe seizures sometimes people smell strange things, noise bothers them, have visions.

Just a thought, next time you visit the doc tell him about your experiences and ask him if there is a possibility of a neurological component.
