Don't let it hurt your self esteem... that comment was without a doubt a reflection of their narrow vision and ignorance (was going to say 'in some ways'... but sod it, will go all out).
Some people get this odd impression that young people do not have 1. life experience and 2. problems.
Neither are true... both factors are present in people at all different times in their lives... some faster than others.
So yeah, just nod and smile and let it wash off your back like water off a duck
