This isn't exactly my forte but I will say I learn toward new age spiritual beliefs and a friend of mine was once reading a book that suggested that as a soul before coming to earth you picked your parents and your adversity. The most enlightened spirits pick the hardest paths because they want to learn from the experience of their life on earth. There is little to be learned from too easy a life. So given this scenario it's is likely that you are further along on your spiritual path.
