Dear Bracelets,
You once ruled my life, lining half of both my arms. You once covered most of my shame and embarrassment. But today as I stand here looking at all of you sitting in a big pile on my dresser, I smile. Because my arms are free. Yes, my scars are visible. Yes, they are out in the open for all to see. But how many times have I struck a conversation encouraging others who self harm because I left you behind. How many people have seen my willingness to be open, and decided that they too, should open up. More than one. I can tell you that.
Yes bracelets, you are pretty, but I will never let you rule my life again.
Now the only bracelet I wear is a pink and silver medical alert bracelet. And there is absolutely no shame in that one.

Sincerely,
Stronger.
