I went to the dentist yesterday. It'd been over a year since my last visit, since I don't have insurance and couldn't afford to go. But I just finished a well paying contract job and had some extra money so I thought I"d go in for a checkup and cleaning. They did x-rAys and measured my gums. and it was bad news. You could see the plaque buildup on the x-rays, and there were several deep pockets that were down to the bone, and lots of receeding gums. They said I have mid stage gum disease. It's treatable, but the treatment is going to be painful and expensive. The first session is a 2 our cleaning with picks, lasers, and putting antibiotics under the gums. The second session is 1 hr. It's going to cost around $1,000. Fortunately I have the money, so I'm going ahead with the treatment, as I really want to keep my teeth, but I'm not happy.
