Well, I've yet to meet or hear about any therapist in my country who is a social worker. I know it's possible but I don't know of any. Counselors are something different from therapists here (and one has to be a psychologist in order to be a licensed counselor).

My therapist is a psychologist, as are most therapists here. Some therapists are psychiatrists, but not many. So that's why I chose a psychologist. My therapist is also a counselor but I perceive what we are doing as therapy, not just counseling (but it's a little bit of both, really).

I chose my particular therapist because I knew him and trusted him. I worked with him in a project he did with a colleague as part of his Master's degree program while I was an undergrad student in psychology. I chose him over his colleague because he was much more experienced and it showed.
