Yeah, during EMDR mostly. She'd tell me "that was then, this is now" over and over again, remind me to be mindful of my breathing, and do exercises designed to stay in the here-and-now. She'd also ask me to describe some of the things I'm experiencing - for example, if I feel like the walls are closing in on me, she'll help me reassure myself they're not.
The "that was then, this is now" really helps because it doesn't unvalidate (is that a word?) my current feelings/emotions/thoughts/experience, while still telling me I'm not there.
