What would you tell a friend who was criticizing themselves so harshly?

Mom's can be very harsh almost by habit, thinking they are saying such things in your best interests while either totally oblivious of the impact or narcissistically and perhaps sociopathically relishing the pain caused, in their effort to control the situation.

Cult mind control, and cult think, so permeates many societies that few realize how prevalent and squelching of decent and exposure it is. The patterns of group behavior involved need more wide spread acknowledgement and change. I encounter it on these forums every time I visit.
