I used to find the phone much more comfortable too - I was much more able to be bold and say things because I felt safe using the medium of the phone. She couldn't see into my head or my heart.
What I will say though, is that you truly do miss something if you keep it all on the phone. In therapy, I discovered just how soothing or beneficial eye contact is. I realised I'd had most of my entire relationship with my birth mother on the phone, and had lost something from that. Physical presence is different.
Is there anyone else in your life that you have had an intimate relationship with, where hard things got said on the phone more than in person? Maybe that's what feels familiar?
