It's very different from medical insurance. Did you try creating a user account on your insurance's website. You'll have access to the coverage summary brochure. If there is an annual deductible, you'd have to pay that on your first visit plus the office visit copay, xrays, etc. Depends on the dentist, whether they want the money up front or paid in installments.
