It is far from a cop out actually and open to all sorts of possibilities. If your reality is something you perceive, then you can change your perception and change your reality.
The whole point is that they are connected as parallel realities and that you can drop into those realities. You can change the sims game so why not this one?
Also, if this is a soul journey then you have helped to predetermine some of what happens for you so you learn those lessons and purify your soul. I suppose the answer is to aim for that and you will ultimately change things for you. If nothing else 'like attracts like'
