I completely understand how you feel about getting on a bus, it causes extreme reactions such as claustrophobia for me so please dont consider yourself to be pathetic. Its a perfectly normal symptom of anxiety.
A hypnotherapist told me a few years ago that if I was in a situation such as this, just say to yourself im only here for a short while, and you could even get off the bus if it becomes too much. This really helped me deal with the feelings of panic, knowing that what i was feeling would come to an end. Even if you need to get off the bus 3-4 times it doesn't matter, time is not the issue.
