I suspect things like religiosity and paranoia have a biological basis in most people that gets out of hand in psychotic people. Like... why does pretty much every culture have religious beliefs? It's probably about social and moral wiring in the brain. Paranoia makes sense because sometimes you biologically need it in order to survive and thrive. I'm sure there's a simple explanation for this. I just haven't ever bothered to research why lol.
