I'd have a friend call it :-) I wouldn't know what to say as far as my part of the conversation; presumably the person would answer the phone with "Hello?" and then what do you say?

I would just assume it was a case of mistaken identity; someone saw the car and thought it was someone else's who would recognize the number/writing or something. I tend to be as "selfish" as I can in such situations and realize it can't be about "me" if they just leave a number and command so I'm probably not going to "get" anything I want by calling, the other person is getting it all :-) I'd go for "bored"/someone else with a problem and not "get involved."

Then again, I'd think of a book/novel to write about the subject :-) Have you ever read McElligott's Pool by Dr. Seuss? It's almost more fun thinking of the possibilities than calling the number and being disappointed because it's some stranger wanting something (to buy your car or something they saw in it?) or a case of mistaken identity. Like people waving and it turns out they're waving to someone behind you :-)
