Have you ever been to a Dr. and you heard them say (through the glass receptionist door) they didn't want to deal with you- because "THEY" (the Dr. was referring to people with Bi polar) are hard to treat and she didn't know who sent these people to her! The nurse said "She was very nice on the phone" , meaning me, and the Dr. said "they can be nice at times". Well, that is what I heard a Dr. say that I was visiting for the first time. She took me in her office and explained lamely that she didn't usually treat young people who were on disability. Really??? I was in shock, ashamed and mad! She clearly, from what I overheard her say to her nurse, didn't want to treat me because I had bi polar and was using a lame excuse, which makes no sense, to turn me away. I controlled my anger and said "I was looking for a Dr. when I found, you so I will continue to look for another Dr." Oh yes, ironically she had been my Dr. 13 years ago at another practice for about a year. She left that practice and I had just found her again, explained I used to see her, she didn't remember me though, and Bi polar was all she heard. How frustrating, hurtful and sad.
