Because for the better part of my life I was undiagnosed and therefore untreated type 1 rapid-cycling bipolar disorder, I've lived one high adventure after another while experiencing serial episodes of mania or manic-psychosis (I LOVE THAT FEELING - but hate the consequences).
In 2001, my newly-married wife told me about a man who'd raped her down in South Carolina in 1994. I wanted to avenge her, but wasn't in the position to do so - that is until I had my next episode of manic-psychosis. Well, to make a long story short, I hunted him down to this grubby little trailer park on the outskirts of Rock Hill, South Carolina where he lived in the rusty-yellow single-wide. For the next several months, I terrorized him with impunity. Five months later, the FBI surrounded my car in a parking lot in Denver and arrested me for terrorist acts against an individual. I WAS LOOKING AT A POSSIBLE THIRTY (30) YEARS IN A FEDERAL PRISON - NOW THAT'S SCAREY!
During the interview, a seasoned FBI agent asked me outright, "Why didn't you kill him?" I replied, "Because I was having too much fun torturing him." At the end of our interview I concluded by saying, "I only did what you gentlemen want to do, but can't. It's just too bad that for all of us I didn't finish the job."
One year after the date of my arrest, I went on trial at the U.S. Federal District Court in Columbia, South Carolina - and was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
And so . . . I'm soooo happy to be with all of you here today!
