For appeals- it's actually very smart to have representation. It's not just a few hours of easy work.

Also it's false that SS denies everyone on first application. Often a lot of the denials [not most but a lot] are due to poor preparation of the application, not because the person wouldn't qualify had they provided complete medical records or something of that nature.
