There isn't a right way of doing this.

I'm dating a woman who hasn't met my teenage daughter yet, I want to take things VERY slowly because I remember how difficult it was for me as a teenager being introduced to the people my parents were dating.

I think that younger kids, and older ones are much easier than teenagers (or tweens) you only get one chance to make a first impression so make it count.
