I think it's a brilliant idea.
I'm a writer as well but my stuff is centered more around psychological thrillers (god knows, I have experience with that sort of thinking!) but I wrote a journal once of a trip I took to the UK....it was more autobiographical than a travel log....was pretty good actually and is due to be published next fall, if all goes well.
I will say it hurt a lot to write it...the trip wasn't all the amusement I'd expected, but I wouldn't have traded it for the world. Gave me a lot of insight, I wouldn't have had by just 'thinking about it'. Writing tends to do that, as I'm sure you know.
