Thanks again for this thread, Maranara.
I just finished a one-month subscription. The jobs are indeed legitimate: Most of the listings on FlexJobs offer the option to go to the original posting on the employer's website.

The only issue that I noticed was that with full-time telecommuting jobs (where you would be an employee of the company on a W-2 basis), a lot of the employers still wanted someone local. Maybe that's because of taxes or benefits like health plans. Freelance positions (1099 basis) were a little more flexible.

I didn't look at all of the different fields and professions, but for writing and editing, there were a lot of positions for educational curriculum development and medical writing, and most of them required graduate degrees and experience. The general communications positions tended to be marketing or public relations, and most of those required proven experience.

Not sure what kinds of jobs were available in other fields, but I got the general impression that there wasn't much entry-level work, or work suited for people who are reentering the workforce after long absences unless those who have been out of the workforce for a while kept their skills current somehow.

They accidentally charged my card after I cancelled my account. I left a voicemail for them on a Saturday and they called me on Monday. The customer service rep was very polite and professional, and they credited my card back within the week.

If you can spare 15 bucks and you have some experience in your field, it might be worth it just to take a look.
