Well I'm proof that hoping it goes away doesn't work. It doesn't go away. I thought I was free after six years with no meds and yet here I am. While medicating doesn't have to be your only option, hoping it will go away is not an alternative.
I would encourage you to learn as many coping skills as you can and make sure you are in a good place before you taper off. You also need to pinpoint any triggers and have a plan to combat them should they occur. And even then, it will be tough.
