The thing is- I wouldn't expect a lay person to be knowledgeable about things that they might not have part in, in term of
implication implementation of public equality and consistent
implication implementation of said equal treatment in various systems.
So.. teachers, any kind of school official, anyone in any public organization, any one who is a superior of any organization, any public servant... I mean that still covers a lot of ground and includes a lot of people who should be seeking out the information about the public and demographics that they serve and interact with- they should seek understanding. So, yeah there should be gender neutral facilities. There should be... a LOT of things.
Just because you haven't yet had someone shove an ADA order in your face is no reason you shouldn't have these perfectly appropriate facilities.
It's bizarre, that places don't and find it
unreasonable and "special treatment" when even discussion is brought up.
I also don't think- in terms of the various "lay people" who may not fall into those groups- ignorance is an excuse to be a narrow minded, hard headed ***.
Like you've not heard of something, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
All inclusive language is pretty important because we don't know who we talk to, and to assume we do at all times is pretty silly.
I kind of am preaching to the choir probably, and I'm not trying to like appropriate ideals or personal issues that are not specifically mine, nor am I trying to take over the thread.
i honestly have trouble knowing where or when it is appropriate for me to speak as a supporter of those I care about [like as a secondary activist, i guess? uh, I don't know how to phrase it] so that I am a supporter and not trying to speak FOR other people.
Speaking of ignorance though, I had never actually run into the term cishet?
Not offended by it, nor by the term cis. I don't really like the term "normal" because then it defaults anyone who doesn't fall under that label to "abnormal"... which is not really accurate.
I don't really care, for myself.
I dont know, i hope I didn't like, shout over people here or stomp on anyones feet. I'm going to withdraw here, though.
