Hello,

SI is a difficult coping mechanism because unlike others, in it is difficult to hide and provokes questioning. I know I have made countless excuses for mine, and even to this day they are still visible on me, even after they had been inflicted 10 years ago. Sometimes it feels like no one can possibly understand why we do these things, except others like us. And I've always despised when people say "it's a way to get attention".

I'm sure in ways it is a cry for help for us, but we know all too well that the last thing we want is questioning and attention brought to something we are ashamed of.

I agree that you do need to get the tests done, but I wouldn't worry about your doctor. Perhaps use some bandaids or makeup to conceal them, and just brush it off if the doctor asks about it. It would be good to tell your psychologist though so they can help you through these difficult times. The faster they are able to determine if you have other underlying medical issues, the more quickly they can help find treatment for you.

Take care and feel better. *hugs*
