For me, the name of the pet just has to be easy to say. When younger, I knew way too many cats named Alice and Gertrude, Stephen or Sappho etc. And I also was against naming them like a law firm. I have sometimes used characters from novels. (yossarian for example) (but we called him yoyo - so the snobby name was sort of overshadowed by the silly)
