Not British but I come from The Bahamas, a former British colony. Our government offers little for mental health patients unless there is a serious issue, such as a suicide attempt, they then send you to a place called Sandilands. At first my family was a bit concerned about me going on meds aswell, but eventually after learning of the seriousness of my condition, they just accepted it. Wishing you the best.
