I tend not to be scared by people like that. Anyone throwing a hissy fit over deli chicken has a very low tolerance for frustration and very minimal emotion regulation skills. As uncomfortable as you were, I'll beat she was even more uncomfortable.
I think that's why I don't get scared. Instead of provoking an emotional response in me, it makes me go all cerebral - wondering why, oh why, are they acting that way. I can either go to my reasoning mind or my emotional mind, but not both at the same time. And people like that just make me really curious. I feel sorry for them. But I don't think their negative behavior should be rewarded.

Hmph! That's why people act that way. It works. They get what they want which rewards the behavior and encourages more of it in the future.

Don't give up your benefits because of some dumb coworker. You earned your associate discount. It's part of your compensation. And, trust me, you're not the only one there on disability and/or food stamps. And not all your fellow employees will judge you.
