My mother is severely handicapped by a complex of mental issues, and she is unable to get help.

Consensus among the professionals we have talked to and among the literature we have read says she needs to be in an inpatient or residential program.

Yet one of her most severe issues is extreme OCD centered around contamination. So a hospital or even a residential program is unthinkable. Even getting to such a place is impossible, as it would involve air travel or an extended road trip, and those involve touching contaminated surfaces and using shared bathrooms. Then there's the setting itself, which is utterly terrifying to her.

So her illness is literally preventing her from addressing her illness.

She also has trouble getting to see her therapist (basically for the same reasons), and only makes it there about once every other week. An hour of therapy every other week just can't cut it against this much sickness.

So what can she do? Are there therapists who work online or who do house calls? Even so, it would have to be someone who is really good (the last four therapists/psychiatrists have seen her decline more and more) and it would have to be really intensive. Together those sound like they would cost a large, uninsured fortune.

Is there just no hope for her?
