I struggled with SH for a while, but never attempted suicide. When I SHed it was to stop feeling so numb, and my purpose for doing so was not to kill myself. At the hospital, I told them (honestly) that I was not suicidal, but that I was harming myself. They kept me for a few hours under "watch" and then let me go home. If I was suicidal, they would have had me stay much longer.
