I do not have any experience with APs but I did have severe weight gain on an AD, Celexa. I gained over 80lbs in 11 years. I was put on Ritalin to help with a side effect - extreme fatigue but I know none of my doctors would prescribe Ritalin for the weight gain. Although because I was using Ritalin for fatigue it did help me lose 60lbs. I am now off Celexa and the Ritalin. We found out the Celexa was causing the extreme fatigue and since then docs took me off Celexa and subsequently the Ritalin. My docs already told me they won't prescribe Ritalin anymore since it was being used to treat a side effect and they don't typically do that, especially with a drug like Ritalin. From what I understand Adderall is more potent than Ritaln? I doubt the doc will prescribe it for a side effect, especially one like weight gain.
If I were in your position I would stick with the medicine that works well for my mood and deal with the weight gain very carefully with diet and exercise. Now I know it's not easy!! Been there! But I would rather be stable and struggling with weight than unstable and thin. Just my opinion though. I know it's not the same for everybody and sometimes weight gain can make us feel worse! I feel for you. Good luck either way you choose to go!!
Take Care!
