Yes, get personally involved in the work rather than with how it "looks" or what others are doing, etc. Study for yourself at the level you enjoy; if it isn't fun or useful to you, personally, right this minute, fall back and regroup and come at it some other way. Study something because you want to, not because it is required or to prove yourself to others, etc. The world will not fall apart if you hate English literature and only get a "C". Have fun with it (my husband wrote a paper arguing that Robert Frost's poem about the fog creeping in on little cat feet was "stupid" (he didn't like Robert Frost at all, it was about him rather than the poem) :-) The purpose of your education is that it is for you, not for a grade or for someone else.
