Rapunzel already said what I was going to say. Chicks and bunnies are adopted or gifted to people, usually children, who aren't prepared to care for them, and these animals are often returned or abandoned (I find abandoning a pet loathsome), just like when puppies and kittens are given for Christmas and birthdays. It's abuse, neglect and it ticks me off in so many ways.
