This is a brain disorder problem. So far, there is no permanent "fix" but meds do help. It took 5 years of working w/my MD, neurologist (I have seizures also) & pdoc to get the right meds. A psych RN also helped.
If the meds you are on don't help after 4-6 weeks, it's time to try something different. It also helps to find some sort of exercise you like: dance, walking in nature, yoga... and joining a group to do something interesting/fun helps, too. I'm not talking of therapy groups, altho' some people do find those helpful (I didn't, too much down talk). I mean like finding a group of people who do things you enjoy: seeing/talking about films together, doing Medieval or Ren' Faire events, book clubs, writing clubs. Surrounding yourself with upbeat people is good. This forum is very helpful.
Scientists are working to find out why our brains are different & how to help. But at this juncture, the best help is via meds. Best Wishes to you for finding a good place!
uote=zpe263;3791484]Is it possible to fix bipolar? I've read that you will have it your whole life and that you need to try harder to realize when you are going to change. I can't figure it out. I'm trying so hard but when I'm manic... man I'm crazy. When I'm depressed... it's like I'm in a hole. My therapist isn't helping and nether are the meds...[/quote]
