I guess it is the "I'm hearing my own voice or having a memory of someone I know speaking" as opposed to "this is not a voice I recognize as someone I know". I'm definitely confused...well, scared I guess...because I do hear voices in my head, and the voices are not someone I know. Sometimes they are horribly frightening, other times very comforting. I've told p-docs...they don't seem to pay much attention to it, although it might be a reason I'm on Seroquel.
Yes, tinnitus can be REALLY awful! I've experienced it. Fortunately at this point, the level of sound is low enough that, for the most part, it's not too bad. Other sounds tend to drown it out for the most part except for times such as when I'm awake in bed at night & everything is quiet. I could play music or a nature sounds audio CD or something, but I don't.

Speaking of awful... hearing unfamiliar, horribly frightening voices sounds pretty awful to me. I do know what you're saying as far as pdoc's go. It's frustrating when you tell them about something like this & they just seem to ignore you. I've had that experience as well.
