This is a great description Sweepy. I've also heard it describes as having a radio switched on and stuck on high volume and the only way to turn the high volume down is to turn the radio off. So it's a radio that is either dialed to extremely loud, or off. The whole black or white thing, and the emotional rollercoaster.. And the emotion swing is more out of control than say for a person without BPD. So yeah hard to turn on or off (or volume down, say) at will.
