i think driftis only natural and actually may be good because it brings in other points related to the original topic.

Quite true, and of course, that is what I would want. However, it is when the topic veers so far off the main topic that it no longer relates in any way. I find that when this happens, opinions begin to counter other opinions that do not even relate to the orginal post, and by this time, the subject matter is completely lost. If one has an opinion about something that does not relate to the original, at least in some sense, then start another thread.

When the topic veers so far away from the orginal, it becomes too difficult to even figure out who is saying what to whom and about what.

Of course, if the subject line could be changed to follow certain points of view, it would make it much easier to follow that point, however, we are not allowed to do this here.

Having a conversation drift is not unusual, but when one wishes to discuss and / or listen to other's opinions on the original topic, veering off becomes nighmarish, like this post/response (which has absolutely nothing to do with the original)!

Maybe I should have started another post to answer this post?? Oh, heck, I don't even know what I'm talking about anymore...
