I would probably buy a CD if I were going to play with this, make sure I got quality and someone who knew what they were doing. I don't have an ipod and wouldn't want to use my computer. I'd get some decent headphones. My portable CD player up in my bedroom would probably be what I would use.
It has kind of a self-suggested/placebo effect I believe,
Gnaural: A Binaural-Beat Audio Generator which certainly can be useful but understanding the science behind it and how to create the effect properly (that causes some of the controversy, there are idiots out there claiming they have it but it is not a true binaural beat) just seems like too much work for me for that particular effect.
But like Slamjammer says, it could be a great tool if you wanted to work on your meditation, etc., but it's not a cure all or "drug", etc. It reminds me of all the dietary pills, claims for this herb or that "super" food. I was eating blueberries long before they became a super food? :-)
