And the "except for the people who have it" part is offensive to me. Because I earned money, I have access to happiness and because someone else didn't bother to earn it - they do not have access. Far to simplistic.
I wasn't talking about two cars a three stall garage, dvd players, internet access, I-phone ect per say...though as one who does like a good movie every now and then its nice to have a dvd play with which to play them on and internet access is very useful for a lot of things. But I more meant basic things like enough to eat, shelter maybe a car or access to public transportation and such since a lot of places are too far to walk in any reasonable amount of time.

Also I have mental problems so severe I cannot work and no I didn't get the chance to earn a living, become disabled and then get SSDI had to go for SSI since it interfered with my ability to work in the first place, There's times in my life growing up I wouldn't have had enough to eat if not for food stamps...what are people like me supposed to do just lay down and die as to not waste the tax dollars that come from money people earn? That is sort of what we'd be left with without such programs that and the mercy of chairity organizations and family provided they can and are willing to help a given individual but something tells me that wouldn't solve the problem. It is extremely ignorant to assume people who are poor just 'didn't bother' to earn enough. There are all kinds of barriers and many people who work their asses off still need government assistance to get by due to low wages that don't reflect inflation and probably lots of other factors...I get sick of the attitude that the poor don't deserve a better quality of life because they must be to lazy to just get up and 'earn' it....what needs to happen is society needs to do a better job of adressing the problem of wealth inequality, the fact many are falling through the cracks and try and people have their basic needs met.

Sorry to be such a burden to society and all but, yeah I think providing social welfare programs are a damn good use of tax money, sorry if you disagree. Now excuse me while I go talk to people who understand the concept of social responsibility like paying taxes and then the government using that to help the citizens of society...yes the poor and homeless are citizens to.

And yes the only way to afford things generally speaking is to have money, if one is unable to make enough money to sustain them self...there is a good chance they will have a harder time reaching any state of happiness due to barely scraping by and the stress and what not that goes along with it. I have taken psychology classes and much of time being in a bad economic situation or having limited access to resources can be a factor in mental illness due to the stress it causes.

As is now the wealthiest few have control of most of the worlds resources, while the rest of us are gradually being left to scavenge and fight over the scraps because with how people act i don't see how they'd actually find the motivation to form a potentially better society....much better to remain divided and let the pigs keep on feasting so to speak. The part that people who need government assistance due to being poor/homeless are just a burden offends me.

And no everything in life is not a choice, I did not choose to end up in the lockdown back in highschool, I did not choose to get bullied and ostracized throughout public school, I did not choose to develop mental problems, I didn't even choose to be born, people don't choose to develop cancer and AIDs and then die of the illness....many things in life are not choices lots of things people have no control over happens but I think that is enough examples for the moment.
